SoundSense terms of use
Last updated: 13 October 2026
These terms apply to the SoundSense mobile application ("SoundSense", "the app") made by Just IT, MB (company code 305582536, Vilnius, Lithuania; "we", "us"). Contact: info@just-it.lt. By installing or using SoundSense you accept these terms. The SoundSense privacy policy explains how information is handled.
1. What SoundSense is
SoundSense estimates sound levels using your phone's microphone, saves measurements on your phone and lets you share results. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own purposes, in line with these terms and the rules of the store you got it from.
2. Measurements are estimates
Phone microphones are not certified sound level meters. Readings depend on the phone model, microphone, case, position, operating system processing and the environment. A reference adjustment can bring readings closer to a reference meter but does not make the phone a certified instrument.
SoundSense is for personal awareness and comparison. Do not rely on it for legal evidence, workplace or occupational noise compliance, building acceptance, medical or hearing-health decisions, or safety-critical purposes. Use a certified meter operated by a qualified person for those. If you are worried about your hearing, see a medical professional.
3. Free version and ads
The live meter is free without a time limit. The free version includes a limited number of saved recordings and recording length, and shows ads. Watching an optional rewarded ad can unlock a single use of some Premium features, such as one longer recording or one PDF report, as described in the app. We may change what the free version includes; this does not reduce anything you have already paid for.
4. Premium, Lifetime and Remove ads
- Premium (Monthly or Yearly) is an auto-renewing subscription. It includes longer recordings and unlimited saved measurements, recording with the screen locked, comparisons, Insights, PDF reports and batch exports, and no ads.
- Lifetime is a one-time purchase of the same Premium features with no renewal.
- Remove ads is a one-time purchase that removes ads only; it does not include Premium features.
Prices, currency, taxes and any free trial are shown in the app and by the store before you confirm. Payment is taken by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) from your store account.
Renewal. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the price shown unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your store account is charged within the 24 hours before renewal.
Free trial. If a trial is offered (currently 3 days on the Yearly plan, for eligible accounts), the subscription starts charging when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account or Google Play subscription settings, or through Manage purchases in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds. Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, and refund requests are handled under their policies: for the App Store at reportaproblem.apple.com, and for Google Play through your Google Play order history. This does not affect your statutory rights.
Right of withdrawal (EU consumers). Premium and the one-time purchases are digital content supplied immediately after purchase. By confirming the purchase you ask for immediate supply and acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right of withdrawal once supply has started, as allowed by EU consumer law. Refunds remain available through the store as described above.
Restoring purchases. Use Restore purchases in the app with the same store account. Lifetime and Remove ads stay available for as long as we offer SoundSense in the store where you bought them.
5. Your data and your content
Your measurements, titles, place names and notes stay on your phone. You are responsible for keeping copies you need; uninstalling the app removes them, and we cannot recover them. When you share a result you decide who receives it.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use SoundSense to record or monitor people where that is unlawful, and do not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app except where the law allows it despite this restriction. Do not interfere with ads, purchases or the app's security.
7. Availability and changes
We may update, change or stop features, and may stop offering the app. Updates may be needed to keep using purchased features. If we stop offering a subscription we will not renew it.
8. Liability
SoundSense is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for decisions made from estimated readings, or for lost data stored on your device. Our total liability to you for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid for SoundSense in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law, and nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
9. Apple App Store
If you got SoundSense from the App Store:
- These terms are between you and Just IT, MB, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- The licence in section 1 is limited to Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) to you. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws. We are responsible for those claims to the extent these terms and the law require.
- If a third party claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
